Difference between Static MAC address and Port Security

Difference between Static MAC address and Port Security

Product:
EKI Management Switches

Topic:
What is the difference between “Static MAC address” function and “Port Security” function?

Description:
This document will guide you how to use the IGMP function inside the EKIs in a media multicast application.

Solution:
Static MAC Address Table:

When you key in one MAC address (For example, 01 02 03 04 05 06) into the static MAC address table of a certain port on the EKI switch, all packages that are going to be delivered to 01 02 03 04 05 06(Destination MAC address) will be delivered to port1, no matter this device is connected to any other port of the same EKI switch. That is to say, this device is only allowed to receive any package in port1. However, this device is allowed to send data from any other port.

Port Security:

The Port Security function needs to work with Static MAC address function. When you enable the port security for Port1, the device that the MAC address has been keyed in the Static MAC address table will be able to send/receive package in Port1 only.
